Who is the woman behind "The Substance"?

"A woman's whole life," says Coralie Fargeat, "is full of criticism."
She knew from the time she started thinking about it, when she was still young, that much of the advertising she saw in magazines showing beautiful women was manipulated. But until she knew it, she felt out of place and less than those girls without any imperfections on their skin, with silky hair, and incredible bodies.
"The female body is constantly judged, objectified and sexualized" , the 48-year-old Frenchwoman has repeated in several interviews.
And so, when he went up to receive the award for Best Screenplay at the Critics Choice Awards, he made a demand, taking advantage of the fact that television had reached dozens of countries.
"Asking the world to see us (women) for who we are and not for what the world wants us to be ", he explained.
His initial academic training was at the Institute of Political Studies in Paris , after which he went to La Fémis, a Parisian film school where was selected to participate in a scriptwriting workshop , noticing his talents for it.

After all, since she was a child she liked films related to human transition reflected by David Cronenberg ( The Fly ), Paul Verhoeven ( Robocop ) and John Carpenter ( Carpenter ).
"They express that it can change, that it can invade us, we can go through a metamorphosis, (and) simply fulfill the human fantasy of escaping from our bodies ", he told Cinepremiere magazine.
The Substance did not represent a departure from horror : with her debut feature Revenge (2017), which caused a sensation in her native country, she decided to tell the story of a young woman attacked by three men and left to die in the desert. When she recovers, against all odds, she seeks revenge on her attackers in the cruelest way possible. The film won at festivals such as Sitges , considered the most important in the world in genre cinema.
